On Friday, Aug. 15, Waubonsee Community College hosted its very first Welcome Back BBQ Bash across the entire Sugar Grove campus. The event, which took place from 4 to 6 p.m., allowed new and returning students to become acquainted with the campus and celebrate the start of the 2025 Fall semester with a variety of festivities and resources.

As the event’s name suggested, a barbecue was available to all attendees to enjoy. Arranged outside of Collins Hall, this area saw the most traffic throughout the event.

A variety of clubs and organizations were set up throughout campus buildings, most notably Bodie Hall, the Academic and Professional Center and the Student Center. The Muslim Student Association was in the Student center and spoke to students about their questions or interests in the organization.

Clubs attending the event were encouraged to create some form of activity for students to participate in alongside information regarding membership. The Philosophy Club, located in a classroom in Bodie Hall, displayed a variety of question boards for students to answer as well as an exit ticket, while many other clubs had games for students to win candy and other small prizes.

Attending students, especially those new to the school, were encouraged to explore the campus and become acquainted with their schedules. On top of this, Student Life created a campus scavenger hunt for students to participate in, with the winner being given a gift basket of school supplies.
